As a parent of four children and with decades of martial arts experience behind me, I am committed to the safety and self-defence education of young people. Having studied martial arts in depth, I wanted to answer the question of whether there is a branch of martial arts that young people can use to protect themselves in a live situation in a way that safely avoids both physical and psychological injury and occasional legal consequences in the process.

Since I have not found such a system, we have developed an effective self-defence method for young people, especially for students, which is about quick situation recognition, prevention, and, ultimately, the safe avoidance of an attack, in such a way that, if possible, neither the attacked nor the attacker are injured. This is how the Fit For Life program and the TREVA self-defence system came into being.

I have taught individual and group self-defence classes for children for many years and have lectured in schools on the topic of bullying.

I am currently training teachers in self-defence and preparing them to introduce the Fit For Life program in schools in and outside Budapest.

I have been teaching health promotion and self-defence for children and adults for twelve years. Based on my training at the University of Physical Education and Sports in Budapest and my sixteen years of experience in amateur and competitive sports, we have developed this program and we are convinced that it can contribute to the safety and self-confidence of young people and to the peace of mind of parents. This way they can be confident that their children will come home from school or other activities safe and unharmed both mentally and physically.

OPINIONS

We participated in the training course with our high-school class and I would recommend the program to everyone – kids, parents and teachers. The very practical, well-focused session familiarized the kids with real-life situations that can happen to anyone at any time. Amazing practical advice and exercises were given to prepare the children for emergencies, how to avoid them and, failing that, how to defend themselves most effectively. We hope to attend many more such events, it was very useful!

“As the teacher of a sixth grade class, I think it is very useful and necessary to talk about bullying in school. Unfortunately, everyone is affected by it in some way. It is important that children are aware of these situations and have the tools to defend themselves. The descriptive concept of the Fit For Life program has contributed to this. By analysing situations from the children’s lives, they have been prepared to recognize and avoid emergencies. And through situational exercises, they can deepen their theoretical knowledge. As an educator, I think it is very important to have a “knowledge base” at hand, whether it is in the area of awareness or in the area of assistance. My students really enjoyed the clear presentation and described the program as useful and awareness-raising. I gladly recommend the program to my colleagues!”

“My daughter, who is almost 12, is moving around town more and more on her own, so it is important for me to keep her as safe as possible. This program is good because it teaches my daughter skills, techniques and moves that help her become more confident and defend herself. The classes are fun and the trainer understands the children’s language, which is important to successfully teach them what they need to know. I think this is an important foundation that should be part of public education from a young age.”

“Our 14-year-old son, who is sensitive but does not always avoid conflict situations, has been getting around in the city alone for some time. For me, it is important that he is able to perceive the dangers on the streets, which are anything but safe, and avoid them as much as possible. And if they can’t be avoided, I want him to be able to defend himself in a way that minimizes the emotional and physical pain of the attack. Learning these tactics, exercises and moves in the safe space of the gym is a very good way to do this. As an educator, I believe that the Fit For Life self-defence program should be a compulsory subject on every school’s curriculum.”

“There is always a turning point in our children’s lives when they move up a level and sometimes you have to let them go. For me, it was an important moment to let my 13-year-old son go out on his own, without parental supervision. As a mother and responsible parent, my child’s safety is very important to me. Therefore, we were happy to participate in the Fit For Life program, where children learn how to recognize and avoid emergencies and how to defend themselves against an attacker through situational exercises based on real everyday scenarios. The instructor is not only knowledgeable about self-defence, but also makes sure that the children learn the skills at an application level and are able to use them in a real life situation. I highly recommend this course to all my fellow parents!”

“He’s been to my sixth grade class several times and the kids always ask when he’s coming next. At the end of the year, several of them called this program the best extracurricular activity. It is comprehensive, with both theoretical and practical elements, and both the language and style are appropriate for the age group. It tackles very topical issues, helps children navigate difficult situations, and as new questions continue to be raised, we hope to offer many more events of this kind. I heartily recommend it for young and old, and for fellow teachers as well.”

“As a mother, the most important thing for me is the independence and safety of my children. Therefore, I was looking for an opportunity for my daughter (since she is out on her own more and more often) where she could learn how to protect herself from various bullying situations. This is how I came across the Fit For Life program. It offered everything my daughter needed for her daily independence. With lots of exercises and in a good atmosphere, my daughter can learn all the things that are unfortunately essential in today’s world. She has also gained a lot of self-confidence lately, which I am especially happy about. I would highly recommend this course to both boys and girls.”

“My son is a 13-year-old, confident, tough kid who still believes nothing bad can happen to him. I was looking for a course for him where, in addition to building stamina and learning techniques, the focus is also on prevention. I think it is important to recognize and avoid dangerous situations, but if that doesn’t work, they should try to solve the problem by avoiding physical violence. If they can’t do that, they can apply what they’ve learned as effectively as possible and minimize injuries. The training should be true to life so that in an emergency, one doesn’t freeze up. That is why I was looking for a suitable self-defence system and instructor, and that is why my son is participating in this training now.”
András Cz.
“One day, my withdrawn, introverted 14-year-old son came home and told me that he really wanted to participate in the Fit For Life program and that I should inquire about where he could do so. I did my homework and read up on the program in depth. I was really impressed with the philosophy of the program: non-violent self-defence and mental preparedness are more important than physical strength in my vision of life, so I fell in love with the idea. My son can’t wait to go to the next session. I believe that given the current challenges in society (bullying, homophobia, racism) this is a great way to give kids a compass to be present, to reflect and to make the right choices in all situations.”
